He was admitted to Silpakorn University in 2003, where he studied with Jun Komatsu and Jamorn Supapol. In 2005, he passed the entrance examination for the prestigious Mozarteum University in Salzburg, studying under Prof. Gereon Kleiner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Despite the relative brevity of his formal training, Phu\u2019s deep commitment to the piano has established him as one of the most sought-after Thai pianists, both nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Phu has participated in numerous masterclasses with distinguished artists such as L.Grychto\u0142owna, K. Popowa-Zydro\u0144, R. Levin, A. Schiff, K.H. K\u00e4mmerling, A. Jasinski, H. Leygraf, D. Bashkirov, G. Steinschaden, G. Romero, O. \u0141azarska, S. Kutrzeba, S. Dorenski, M. Szczepanski, R. Plagge, M. Mollova, and J.F. Antonioli. He has also taken private lessons with esteemed pianists including D. Parakhina, V. Krainev, P. Zereu, S. Koch, M. Ivanova, B. Lerner, Eri Nakagawa, W. Schmitt-Leonardy, C. Keller, and S. Bhanomyong. Notably, he was among the final students of the late Thai National Artist Piyabhand Sanitwongse na Ayutthaya.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Phu earned his Bachelor\u2019s degree in Piano Performance from HEMU Haute \u00c9cole de Musique (University of Music Lausanne), where he studied with J.F. Antonioli and R. Castro, and received chamber music coaching from Vincent Coq. He went on to study his Master\u2019s degree at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music under the tutelage of P. Paleczny and K. Jankowska.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">He has performed across Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Hungary, and Russia. Phu made his debut in Bangkok in 2010 with a landmark performance of Chopin\u2019s complete 24 \u00c9tudes \u2014 a feat still unmatched by any other Thai pianist. In 2022, he became the first Thai pianist to perform the complete set of Liszt\u2019s 12 \u00c9tudes d\u2019ex\u00e9cution transcendante.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">In 2023, Phu founded the Thailand International Piano Festival in Bangkok and currently serves as its artistic director. That same year, he made his Belgium and Hungary recital debuts in Ghent and at the Franz Liszt Memorial Museum in Budapest. His teachers have included Laura Searle, Lamar Crowson, H\u00e5kon Austb\u00f8 and Graham Johnson. From 2000 to 2002 he was the Anthony Saltmarsh Junior Fellow at the Royal College of Music. He is the Head of Keyboard at King\u2019s College School, Wimbledon. Mark has received many prestigious awards, including first prizes in the Adolph Hallis Piano Competition in 1994 and the Nederburg-UNISA National Piano Competition in 1998. In 1997 he was awarded the two most sought-after scholarships in the country: the SAMRO Scholarship for Pianists and the UNISA PJ Lemmer Scholarship for Performers. In 2000 he was selected a \u2018Young Concert Artist\u2019 (solo piano) of the National Federation of Music Societies in the United Kingdom (now known as \u2018Making Music\u2019). In 2002 he was again selected, this time as a duo with the mezzo-soprano, Julianne Young. In 2008 he was selected for a third time, on this occasion with the soprano Erica Eloff. He has performed as concerto soloist with all the South African orchestras, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and with several orchestras in England. As solo recitalist and pianist-accompanist he has appeared extensively in South Africa as well as at the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room and Linbury Theatre Covent Garden in London. He has also performed for numerous music societies across the UK. In 1999 he won the Guildhall School\u2019s Schubert and Ireland Prizes and the accompanist\u2019s prize in the English Singers and Speakers Union Song Competition in London. In 2006 he won the accompanist\u2019s prize at the Great Elm Vocal Awards held at Wigmore Hall, London. Engagements have included concerts in Holland, France, Britain, Greece, China and seven extensive recital tours of South Africa with various singers and instrumentalists since 2002. He is a busy chamber musician, often collaborates with singers in art song repertoire and is a founding member of London Song Circle. He is also a faculty member of Piano Week masterclasses, under whose auspices he recently travelled to Beijing to teach and perform. In 2010 he released a CD of songs by Grieg, Wolf, Rachmaninov, Wilding and de Villiers in collaboration with the soprano Erica Eloff. In 2012 he launched a CD of works for solo piano by Liszt, Brahms and Debussy on Stringwise Records. Both recordings were extremely well received in the press and are often to be heard on Classic FM and Fine Music Radio.
